Making My own Ice Cream @ Kenwood IM280

Recently i Blog about Ice Cream Maker , So after  few times checking what model to buy, I wanted the Cuisinart ICE20. However, to my surprise, It's hard to find it  in malaysia. This sucks. So i have togo with another brand. Kenwood IM280! Well, i am pretty happy with it except the fact that the  hole is too small and on the side. You would need a bigger whole  on top of your ice cream maker. That would be so much easier and lesser Mess.
Well, I would  like to Thank Gwendolin Wong. She is the one who really helped me in getting the right brand and the Right way to make ice cream. She is The sweetest :) Thanks Gwen!

    2. Ah that is also interesting, but it is to make Popsicle. not really ice cream as you will be licking ice. :)
Something like you put milk into your ice cube maker and then eat it later. :)
come come, i make ice cream for you.

  3. Hi. I stumbled upon your blog while Googling for Kenwood IM280.

Wow, I see that you'd got yourself one of the machine. From where did you manage to buy it?

You know what, surprisingly, it's been really, really hard for me to even find one Kenwood IM280. I checked various major home appliances stores, and most of them only have one for display. Luckily, when I was at the Harvey Norman in Pavilion, they told me there's only one non-display one in stock, and it's in Penang! So now I'll have to wait till it arrives in K.L. Oh well. I didn't know that the model is going to be discontinued.

On the other hand, I'd thought of the Cuisinart ICE-20, too. But it's impossible to get it here. And online shopping ain't that developed here, still. Somehow, I think Singapore might have that.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Wow, so you bought yours from penang? when it is here, maybe we can share our recipes and experience. i made a few batch in a week. I even found a place where i can buy ingredients cheaper. Because if you go to normal shops to buy, whipped cream is too expensive. If you want, we could help one another out by exchanging information :)

    3. Hi, Andrew.

Finally, I got my Kenwood IM280 few weeks back, and only got around whipping up some ice cream over the Raya weekend after some procrastination. Ha ha.

Anyhow, thanks for the advice and for sharing. I used to buy 1-liter cartons of heavy / whipping cream from the supermarket and sometimes the pastry supply store near me, but this just doesn't seem to work because the heavy cream always went bad before I could figure some other ways to use it up. And I'm also dealing with fridge / freezer space issue, since I'm not the only person in the house. He he. Can't be making too much ice cream at one go ...

Yeap, keep sharing, via blog, Flickr, Twitter, etc. I myself blog, but just haven't gotten around to update these couple months.

Oh yeah. Since you're an ice cream fan, I think it's worth investing in few ice-cream cookbooks. I myself own a copy of:

David Lebovitz's "The Perfect Scoop" and Junko Fukuda's "Ice Cream Book." I heard "Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream at Home" by the ice cream guru Jeni Britton Bauer is very good, too.

      =)

  4. HI Pi Lin,

thanks for the post. I saw your ice cream maker. and the wasabi ice cream. hahaha. i just had wasabi ice cream yesterday from a shop but i didn't like it.

I'm wondering if your ice cream melts real quick? mine melts really quick. so maybe im missing out some ingredients. I'll look into your ice cream books. :) thanks.

haven't been updating my own blog for awhile too. today will be writing about where i have gone these pass few weeks. :)

  5. Oh. Where did you have your wasabi ice cream?

I hope to make frozen yogurt or durian ice cream next, till my batch of wasabi ice cream has all been devoured (we're doing it slow ...).

Yeap, mine melts rather fast, too. In my opinion, you can't compare homemade ones to commercial / store-bought ones. Can you even read some of the ingredients on the packaging? That's the beauty of homemade, artisan ice cream -- lots of TLC and we know what we're eating. I'm not sure, but when I was in the U.S. I was served homemade vanilla ice cream one Christmas for dessert, and it blew my mind! =)

    Keep it up!

    1. sorry i didn't even notice you replied :)

well, i had my wasabi ice cream in japanese shop, maybe it's just that i like wasabi with sushi but not cold in my ice cream? hahaha :) I don't hate it but i prefer vanila or chocolate.

yeah, homemade ice cream is really good in the sense you control what you want in your ice cream, but i wanted to bring my ice cream to a friends house, it melt so Quickly. even putting it on the table, it just melt SO fast. i will be making my next batch using eggs so that way maybe it will be slower in melting. Heheh. :)

  6. hi googled for this model and it brought me here, would like to ask, do i need to put the bowl in the freezer before using it? i had 1 model, forgot the brand, and it was so troublesome where each time i need to make some ice cream, i will need to put the whole ice cream bowl for overnight, and use it on the following.

    1. Yup. You are required to freeze the bowl for 24 hour. I searched a lot. Mostly cheaper icecream maker doesn't come with a ccondenser so you have to freeze the bowl manually. However the more expebsive ones ranged over a thousand, would have a condenser itself and dont have to manually do it
